Privacy

This page describes what happens to data when you read kindl.work. It is written against what the site actually does, checked in the code that builds it.

Who runs this site

Antonín Kindl, an independent artist. The studio is registered in the Czech Republic. Contact: antonin@kindl.work. For anything on this page, that address reaches me directly.

What this site stores on your device

One entry in your browser's local storage, named kindl-theme. It holds the word light or dark and remembers whether you switched the page to the light theme. It is never sent anywhere, and clearing your browser data removes it.

Nothing else. The site sets no cookies of its own, runs no analytics, has no accounts, no forms and no comment system, and loads no tracking scripts. Every script and every font is served from this domain.

Because the site stores nothing that identifies you, there is no consent banner to click through.

What the host sees

The site is hosted on Cloudflare Pages. Like any web server, Cloudflare receives your IP address, the page you asked for, your browser's user agent and the time of the request, and it keeps short-term logs of that for delivery and security. Cloudflare also collects reports about failed network requests through its Network Error Logging endpoint.

Cloudflare acts as my processor for that data. Its own description is at cloudflare.com/privacypolicy.

Embedded video and sketches

Some pages embed video and interactive code from three other services:

  • Vimeo (player.vimeo.com) for most videos. Every embed is requested in Do Not Track mode, which stops Vimeo setting tracking cookies for that session and leaves only the cookies its player needs to run.
  • YouTube in privacy-enhanced mode (youtube-nocookie.com) on a small number of older pages.
  • The p5.js web editor (editor.p5js.org) for the daily sketches.

These frames load when the page loads, not when you press play. At that moment your browser contacts the service directly, so it receives your IP address and the address of the page you are reading, and it can store data on your device under its own name. YouTube's privacy-enhanced mode writes a device identifier to local storage even before a video plays.

I have no access to anything those services collect and I do not receive reports from them. If you would rather they were not contacted at all, a content blocker or a browser that blocks third-party frames will stop them, and the rest of the page still works.

Pictures loaded from other sites

A few archive pages embed a picture that lives on someone else's server rather than on this one. Loading such a page asks that server for the picture, which tells it your IP address and which page you were reading. All other images on the site are served from this domain.

The newsletter

The newsletter is a separate thing you have to ask for. Signing up takes you to a form hosted by Brevo, which stores the subscriber list and sends the mail. Nothing is collected on kindl.work itself.

Brevo records opens and link clicks on the messages it sends, which its plan does not let me switch off. Every issue carries an unsubscribe link, and unsubscribing removes the address from the list. You can also ask me to remove it by email.

Writing to me

Email is the only way to contact me through this site. Mail you send is stored in my mailbox for as long as the exchange is useful, and longer where a project record or an invoice needs it.

Your rights

Under the GDPR you can ask what data about you is held, ask for a copy, ask for corrections or deletion, object to processing, or ask for it to be restricted. Write to antonin@kindl.work.

If you think something here is wrong, you can complain to the Czech data protection authority, Úřad pro ochranu osobních údajů, at uoou.gov.cz.
